Over 60 new long-haul routes starting in next three months

Already launched: Singapore Airlines’ Singapore-Barcelona-Sao Paulo, Air China’s Beijing to Düsselsorf and Iberia’s Madrid to Los Angeles.

With fuel prices apparently on the rise, airlines starting new long-haul services are going to be facing even more challenges in the months ahead. anna.aero has identified almost 70 new long-haul / intercontinental services which are expected to launch between now and the end of June. Here’s a brief overview of who’s doing what:

  • Air China: Beijing to Düsseldorf and Milan Malpensa both three times weekly.
  • Air Europa: Madrid to Mexico City starting in June, four times weekly.
  • Air France: Paris CDG to Lima and Orlando (both starting in June) as well as Freetown (Sierra Leone) and Monrovia (Liberia), both starting in April.
  • AirAsia X: Kuala Lumpur to Christchurch, four weekly flights starting in April.
  • airberlin: Berlin Tegel to New York JFK, four weekly flights starting in May.
  • Alitalia: Rome Fiumicino to Beijing and Rio de Janeiro, both four times weekly starting in June.
  • American Airlines: Two new transatlantic services between New York JFK and Budapest, and Chicago O’Hare to Helsinki, plus a new transpacific route between Los Angeles and Shanghai.
  • Arkefly: Amsterdam to Orlando Sanford and Miami in Florida, twice weekly starting in June.
  • Asiana: Seoul Incheon to Istanbul, three times weekly.
  • British Airways: London Heathrow to Buenos Aires (new non-stop service replaces one-stop service) and San Diego, plus London Gatwick to San Juan (Puerto Rico) via Antigua.
  • Camair-Co: Douala in Cameroon to Paris CDG. The new national carrier of Cameroon began services this week.
  • Cathay Pacific: Hong Kong to Abu Dhabi, four times weekly starting in June.
  • China Eastern: Shnaghai Pudong to Rome Fiumicino, four times weekly starting this week.
  • China Southern: Three new routes from Guangzhou to Amsterdam, Auckland and Vancouver, each to be served three times weekly.
  • Condor: Three new routes from Frankfurt to Calgary, Recife and Seattle-Tacoma.
  • Continental: Two new transatlantic routes from Newark to Cairo (starting in May) and Stuttgart (starting in June), both operated daily.
  • Delta: Three new transatlantic services between New York JFK and Reykjavik, Boston and London Heathrow, and Miami and London Heathrow.
  • Egyptair: Cairo to Toronto starting in June.
  • Emirates: Dubai to Geneva, daily starting in June.
  • Ethiopian Airlines: Addis Ababa to Hangzhou (starting in May) and Milan Malpensa (starting in June).
  • Finnair: Helsinki to Singapore, daily from the end of May.
  • Hainan Airlines: Beijing to Zurich, three times weekly from the end of May.
  • Iberia: Barcelona to Miami (starting this week) and Sao Paulo (starting in June), plus Madrid to Los Angeles (starting this week).
  • Icelandair: Reykjavik to Washington Dulles, four times weekly starting in mid-May.
  • KLM: Amsterdam to Xiamen, three times weekly starting this week.
  • LAM Mozambique: Maputo to Lisbon, twice weekly starting this week.
  • Qantas: Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth, four times weekly starting in May.
  • Qatar Airways: Doha to Montreal, three times weekly from the end of June.
  • Royal Brunei: Brunei to Melbourne, four times weekly starting this week.
  • SAS: Oslo to New York Newark, daily, starting this week.
  • Singapore Airlines: Singapore to Sao Paulo (via Barcelona), three times weekly starting this week.
  • Sun Country Airlines: Minneapolis/St Paul to London Gatwick, twice weekly from the end of May, with a technical stop in Gander.
  • TAP Portugal: Lisbon to Miami and Porto Alegre (Brazil), both starting in June.
  • Transaero: St Petersburg to Beijing, weekly from the end of April.
  • United: Los Angeles to Shanghai Pudong, daily from mid-May.
  • US Airways: Two new transatlantic services from Charlotte to Dublin and Madrid, both daily, both starting in mid-May.
  • Virgin Atlantic: Manchester to Las Vegas, twice weekly, from beginning of April.
  • XL Airways France: Paris CDG to Las Vegas, twice weekly from end of May.

    Although it technically just started this past Saturday, you missed SV’s new 3X weekly service between Riyadh/Jeddah and Guangzhou.
