The cake welcoming bmi regional’s East Midlands route to Frankfurt was cut by Martin Bien, Fraport’s Executive Senior VP, traffic & terminal management, airport expansion division; Gareth Jones, bmi regional’s flight supervisor for the inaugural flight; and Steven Griffiths, bmi regional’s finance & business development director, who were joined for the event by Lufthansa gate staff and Paul Alcock, bmi regional’s director of operations. - bmi regional, the subsidiary of Lufthansa-owned British Star Alliance member bmi, launched a new route to feed its parent’s main hub at Frankfurt (FRA) on 31 October. Flights from East Midlands (EMA) are scheduled to operate 16 times weekly with 49-seat ERJ145 aircraft. bmi has, however, made official that it is looking to sell the regional subsidiary, making the new route’s future uncertain. Last time the route was operated was 2002, also then by bmi.
