Ural Airlines’ new route from Moscow Domodedovo was welcomed to Cologne/Bonn with a spectacular, fully edible cake featuring Cologne Cathedral and St Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow. Celebrating were Jewgenij Schmagin, Russian Consul General in North Rhine-Westphalia; Michael Garvens, CEO Cologne Bonn Airport; and Alexey Fomin, Ural Airlines’ Deputy Director General.
- Ural Airlines added flights to its second German destination after Munich on 2 April when the Russian airline launched a new route between Moscow Domodedovo (DME) and Cologne/Bonn (CGN). The internationally growing airline, which was analysed by anna.aero last year, will operate the new route three times weekly, increasing to five weekly flights in June. The all-Airbus operator will use 159-seat A320s on the new route, which indirectly competes with germanwings’ four weekly flights to Moscow Vnukovo.

Only in an indirect competition with germanwings?
What about the other indirect competitors which are operating to various competing destinations in Germany?
Depending on the definition, there could be an endless number of routes indirectly competing with each other. We limit our scope to non-stop services operating between the same city pairs. In this case, Ural Airlines and germanwings are the only two airlines operating between Moscow and Cologne/Bonn.
