- On 17 April, Azerbaijan Airlines expanded its European network from Baku (GYD). Rome Fiumicino (FCO) has joined Milan Malpensa, becoming the airline’s second non-stop destination in Italy. The new route will also be served thrice-weekly. The 3,000-kilometre route between the two capital cities, which have never been connected non-stop before, will be operated using A319s. Last analysed by anna.aero in late 2010, Azerbaijan has since secured its position as 2012 Eurovision host, while Azerbaijan Airlines sees increased competition from Gulf carriers.
