“He had a little Elk from his friends.” NextJet’s Stockholm Arlanda to Växjö winning Cake of the Week – as chosen by anna.aero readers.
Now here’s the result of the vote you were really waiting for: NextJet’s Stockholm Arlanda to Växjö was your choice of Cake of the Week after 2,176 took part in the readers’ online vote for the best cake celebrating the Winter Scheduling Season Part 1 route launches. Second place was an equal tie between British Airways’ London Gatwick to Las Vegas and Alitalia’s Rome Fiumicino to Zurich. Both silver-medallists were superb cakes – but credit for the win surely goes to the tremendous campaign by NextJet and Brett Weihart, CEO of Weihart Management Consulting AB, an adviser to Växjö’s Smaland Airport. The airline even let Facebook followers who voted for the cake enter a lottery to win free tickets on the airline, and Brett, who barely has slept in the last week, called us on Monday when the voting looked close just to see how much more lobbying he had to do!
It’s a fairy-tale win in more ways than one for Smaland Airport which serves ‘the land of Pippi Longstocking’ – the children’s storybook character and “the strongest girl in the world.” (And just in case you think we’ve gone completely nuts, check out the airport’s Route Shop entry where you’ll see that Smaland also seeks airlines to operate routes to London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Helsinki.)
Now vote for the next Cake of the Week!
This week, we have analysed another 90 new route launches for the Winter Scheduling Season Part 2 (making a total of 215 which we have examined in detail over the past two weeks). We’ve also had another eight cakes submitted for our bi-annual anna.aero reader’s poll – you won’t get another chance to vote until the start of the 2013 Summer Season next spring, so get voting. And, if you want your airline/airport cake to win, get your Twitter followers and Facebook Fans to vote for your cake – it’s a great way to tell core airline/airport customers about your new route after all!
