Spirit Airlines launches new domestic US routes and adds Los Cabos in Mexico

Spirit’s Tampa to Chicago O’Hare

Tampa International Airport in Florida welcomed Spirit’s new O’Hare route with a Chicago-style deep dish pizza cake, Green River soda and a jazz band. Posing by the pizza cake were Chris Minner, Tampa Airport’s VP Marketing; Mark Kopczak, Spirit Airlines’ Senior Director of Network Planning; and Justin Meyer, Tampa Airport’s Director of Air Service Development.

  • Spirit Airlines launched eight new routes on 8 November; seven domestic and one international to Los Cabos (SJD) in Mexico, which notably is a new destination for the low-cost airline. “We’re excited to grow our network of ultra low fare options for our west coast customers in San Diego and Portland with service to a new international destination – Los Cabos, Mexico,” said San Diego resident and Spirit’s Senior Manager Route Planning Robyn Platt. Three of the new routes are to Southwest Florida International Airport at Fort Myers, FL (RSW), while the only route not to face direct competition is between Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (AZA) and Chicago O’Hare, IL (ORD). However, Allegiant operates twice a week from Phoenix-Mesa to Chicago Rockford, and US Airways, American Airlines and United fly between Phoenix and Chicago O’Hare with high frequencies.
