Aegean Airlines, the Star Alliance member, continues to launch more of the 30 new routes planned for this summer. The last week has seen the carrier start operations from Athens (ATH) to Baku (GYD), the capital of Azerbaijan. The twice-weekly A320 flights depart Athens at 23:15 arriving in Baku at 04:45. The departure from Baku is at 05:30 arriving back in Athens at 07:00. The airline’s two other new routes are both from Greek regional airports to Russia. Kalamata (KLX) gets twice-weekly A319 flights to Moscow Domodedovo (DME) until 1 October, and Alexandroupolis (AXD) gets weekly flights to St Petersburg (LED) until 27 September, which operate during night-time hours. In the first quarter of 2013 Aegean Airlines carried 7% more international passengers than in the same quarter of 2012, while the overall passenger load factor increased 5.2 percentage points to 70.5%.
