Lufthansa’s Jerez to Frankfurt
Impossible as it may sound, the cake awaiting Lufthansa’s inaugural arrival in Jerez de la Frontera was entirely edible – even the sandy beach, made of crushed cookies. Cutting it were Rafael de Reyna, Jerez Airport Director; Javier de Torre, government deputy commissioner in Cadiz; Thorsten Kuehl, captain of the maiden flight,; María José García-Pelayo, Mayor of Jerez; Inmaculada Olivero, representative of the Cadiz Tourism Board; Antonio Saldaña, Deputy Mayor at Jerez; and Stefan Declerck, Horeca’s representative.
- Lufthansa increased its seasonal offering from its Frankfurt (FRA) hub on 5 July, when it commenced thrice-weekly services to Antalya (AYT) in Turkey, and twice-weekly services to Jerez de la Frontera (XRY) in southern Spain. While flights to both destinations are carried out using A321s, the market to Antalya is the more competitive out of the two with Condor (13 weekly flights), SunExpress (13), TUIfly (seven) and SunExpress Germany (two) offering their services. Jerez in contrast presents Lufthansa with competition from Condor (four weekly frequencies) and TUIfly (two).
