Cutting the ribbon to celebrate the inaugural service from Miami to Calgary with WestJet were (from left to right): GMCVB President and CEO William Talbert; MDAD Deputy Director Ken Pyatt; MDAD Director Emilio T. González; Canada Border Services Agency Liaison Officer Mary-Teresa Glynn; and WestJet Station Manager Annastasha Storr. Although the Miami-Calgary service only started on 29 October, the Calgary-Miami service launched on 28 October, enabling it to be covered in this week's new routes round-up.
- WestJet has begun serving Miami, FL (MIA) from its main base in Calgary (YYC). The 4,000-kilometre route will initially be served with four weekly flights using the airline’s 737-700s, rising to six in mid-December. No other carrier serves this route at present. This will be WestJet’s second service to the Florida airport, as it already operates daily flights from Toronto. Miami becomes WestJet’s thirteenth route to the US from Calgary, as it already serves six destinations year-round, as well as six destinations (Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Honolulu, Maui, Newark, San Francisco) on a seasonal basis.
