Certainly a contender for the biggest cake of the week, was the offering from Madrid Airport to celebrate the first flight by AirEuropa to Sao Paulo Guarulhos. Clapping the cake’s arrival along with the crew for the flight were: Elena Mayoral, Airport Director; and Juan José Hidalgo, CEO of Globalia, parent company of AirEuropa.
- AirEuropa has started its second service to Brazil from Spain’s capital Madrid (MAD), with its five weekly operation to Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) joining its existing service to Salvador in Bahia state. The flights, which began on 16 December, will be operated by the SkyTeam carrier’s 299-seat A330-200s. AirEuropa will slug it out against three existing airlines plying the route already — namely Air China (twice-weekly), Iberia (12) and TAM Airlines (daily). The Air China service originates in Beijing, stops in Madrid, before continuing on to Sao Paulo. See how Madrid Airport’s FTWA compares to the other airports in this week’s Arch of Triumph competition.
