Concord Airport began commercial services on 20 December with the launch of Allegiant Air’s flights to Orlando Sanford. The event was marked with this fantastic cake.

On 20 December, Islip Airport celebrated Allegiant Air’s first flight to Punta Gorda with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Marking the event were (left to right): Lindsay Hernquist, Allegiant Air’s Spokesperson, and John Cochrane, Islip Town Councilman.

  • Allegiant Air, the world’s second most profitable airline, recently added seven domestic routes to its offering, all served twice-weekly utilising a mixed fleet of 166-seat MD80s and 177-seat A320s. With the longest sector being the 2,184-kilometre service from Orlando Sanford, FL (SFB) to St. Cloud, MN (STC), and the shortest being inaugurated from Montrose, CO (MTJ) to Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (AZA) at 680-kilometre, Allegiant faces direct competition only on the 1,072-kilometre sector to Los Angeles, CA (LAX), from United Airlines’ twice-weekly flights. Commenting on the launch of the service to Des Moines, IA (DSM), Don Smithey, the airport’s Executive Director, said: “Des Moines passengers are excited and looking forward to the nonstop Punta Gorda, FL service by Allegiant beginning today. This popular market has been underserved, and the Des Moines Airport Authority warmly welcomes this new addition from Allegiant.” See how Islip Airport’s FTWA compares to the other airports in this week’s Arch of Triumph competition.
