Garuda Indonesia has commenced thrice-weekly scheduled flights from Surabaya (SUB) to Jeddah (JED) on 13 April. The 8,625-kilometre sector will be operated by the airline’s 747-400s, and frequency will increase to four weekly flights from 16 May. The airline will face no competition on the route. Garuda already serves Jeddah from Jakarta (12 times weekly) and will launch flights from Medan on 1 May. These new services are aimed at serving Indonesian passengers wishing to undertake the Umrah Pilgrimage who will now no longer have to transit via Jakarta.
