- Qatar Airways began the 8,274-kilometre sector to Tokyo Haneda (HND) from its Doha (DOH) hub on 18 June – its third Japanese destination, adding to Tokyo Narita (operated since 2010) and Osaka Kansai (since 2005), and its 143rd globally. Flown daily by the oneworld carrier’s 254-seat 787-8s, the route is currently flown against no competition. Speaking at the launch event, the airline’s CEO Akbar Al Baker said: “Qatar Airways is thrilled that we have further expanded our operations to the dynamic city of Tokyo. This new route will provide our passengers, both in Japan and throughout the rest of our network, with even more options and flexibility when travelling, whether it be for business or leisure.”
