germanwings had a free ‘pop up’ photo booth at check-in at London Stansted Airport on 22 August allowing passengers on the inaugural flight to Düsseldorf to have a snapshot of themselves going on their trip. Lufthansa’s in-house LCC now serves the Essex airport from four points in Germany, the others being Cologne Bonn, Hannover and Stuttgart.
- germanwings continues its major expansion this summer with the introduction on 22 August of 12 times weekly flights between Düsseldorf (DUS) and London Stansted (STN). The 457-kilometre route will be flown by the airline’s CRJ 900s and will face competition from Etihad Regional’s 17 weekly flights. Etihad Regional replaced airberlin on the route in early June. Heinz Joachim Schöttes, SVP Corporate Communications for germanwings, said: “It’s great to be able to launch this new connection from Düsseldorf to London Stansted. Düsseldorf is an incredible mix of Rhineland charm, history, arts, and culture, and we’re pleased to be able to make this area more accessible for UK businesses and tourists.” Andrew Harrison, Stansted Airport’s Managing Director, said: “Stansted is the UK’s leading airport for direct connections across Europe and this new route gives passengers even greater choice. Airline expansion to new markets is always an exciting development and I’m delighted to welcome to Stansted the first germanwings service between Düsseldorf and London, which I’m sure, will be very popular for both business and leisure travel.”
