- FlySafair kick-started operations to Lanseria (HLA) on 1 August by inaugurating flights from Cape Town (CPT). The 1,262-kilometre sector will be served 13 times weekly according to OAG Schedules Analyser data on the carrier’s 737-400s. The route will face direct competition from kulula.com and Mango, which combined offer 70 weekly flights, while indirect competition to Johannesburg, an airport some 50 kilometres away from Lanseria, comes from South African Airways (116 weekly flights), Comair (76), kulula.com (43), Mango (38) and FlySafair itself which offers 33 weekly flights. Singapore Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Turkish Airlines also link Cape Town to Johannesburg on their triangular routes from Singapore, Addis Ababa and Istanbul Atatürk respectively.
