Chișinău International Airport – flying through a winter wonderland
This winter holiday season airport operator Avia Invest has lit up the terminal building at Chișinău International Airport, the only international air gateway into Moldova, as it celebrates another strong year. The terminal atmosphere perfectly complements the picture that makes you think of a beautiful winter tale with an absolutely spectacular winter decoration.
As always, with the occasion of the winter holidays, Avia Invest prepares for all passengers different surprises in order to bring more joy and positive emotions to each passenger departing or arriving at Chișinău International Airport.
Air connectivity is a key tool to putting Chișinău and Moldova on the world map and Avia Invest has been working to enhance the profile of the airport, city and country at business events, including the Routes air service development forums. Having handled just 250,000 passenger per annum in 2000, Chișinău International Airport passed the one million threshold in 2011, and had already doubled numbers to exceed two million in 2015, boosted by year-on-year rises of 34.9% in 2014 and 24.6% in 2015.
The non-stop network of 38 destinations including new routes launched and the modernisation and renovation of the terminal building has boosted capacity from 420 to 750 passengers per hour to support its growing usage. This has included the doubling in size of the check-in area to accommodate 18 desks, a growth of airside areas and an expansion of the immigration hall to house six passport control desks.
“Currently, the airport is going through a process of modernisation and development, and the results of the investment are already visible and felt by its passengers,” said an Avia Invest representative. “Raising the level of passengers’ and airlines’ satisfaction, as well as the quality of services, are the main objectives of Avia Invest. The airport administrator seeks to implement the most effective solutions so that Chișinău remains one of the most modern and safest airports in the region.”
