This week Gran Canaria celebrated winning Part II of the S17 Cake of the Week Public Vote. The airport received the most votes for the cake it presented at the launch of Jet2.com’s flights from Birmingham and London Stansted. Seen celebrating with the award are the airport’s: Teresa Paola Romero, Head of PR and Protocol Section; Ernesto Robayna, Head of the Cabinet; and Dara Cabrera, Quality and Environment Technician.

Edinburgh Airport on 31 March welcomed the arrival of Eurowings’ inaugural service from Munich, a route that the airline will operate six times weekly (daily excluding Saturdays) on its A320s. Seen welcoming the new service to the Scottish capital are: Pavel Halas, Route Development Specialist, Edinburgh Airport; Jonathan Rayner, Aviation Director, Edinburgh Airport; Judith Luebke, Manager Marketing International, Eurowings; Ivan Orec, Manager Network Development & Airport Relations Network and Fleet; Lorna Jack, Aviation and Insights Manager, Edinburgh Airport; and Jonathan Macneal, Airline Business Development Manager, Edinburgh Airport. Eurowings also serves Cologne Bonn and Düsseldorf from Edinburgh.

Newcastle one million passengers

Newcastle Airport welcomed its one millionth passenger of 2017 on 7 April. The milestone was reached as passengers checked in for Thomson Airways’ direct flight to Orlando Sanford. To mark the occasion, staff were on hand to greet Craig McLean, the airport’s one millionth visitor this calendar year with £100 worth of World Duty Free Vouchers. Craig and wife Kirsty were travelling with children Emily and Poppy on the sold-out flight. The party were also joined by Craig’s parents, with dad Brian celebrating his retirement by taking the family on holiday. Craig, from Stockton-On-Tees, said: “We have been looking forward to this holiday for months and already felt very lucky to be treated to a holiday to Florida.” John Irving, Business Development Director at Newcastle Airport, said of the occasion: “We are delighted to have already welcomed one million passengers through the terminal in 2017 and it was wonderful to share the celebrations with the McLean family as they prepared to jet off on holiday to Florida.” Seen with the McLean family at the airport to celebrate one million passengers in 2017 so far is Leon McQuaid, Aviation Development Manager at Newcastle Airport.

Malaga Airport recently celebrated with cake the start of Jet2.com flights from its new UK bases at Birmingham and London Stansted. Among the airport staff celebrating the new routes were Airport Director Salvador Merino Moína, and Head of Commercial Division Gemma Yela.
