Petra Cruz, Tourism Board Dominican Republic and Lutz Honerla, VP Marketing & Strategy, Düsseldorf Airport (holding the giant boarding card) welcomed the Eurowings crew which operated the inaugural flight from the German airport to Puerto Plata on 14 December. The 7,472-kilometre sector will be flown weekly.
- Eurowings connected Düsseldorf (DUS) to Puerto Plata (POP) in Dominican Republic on 14 December and Cancún (CUN) in Mexico on 17 December, to become the low-cost long-haul carrier’s third and fourth routes from the German airport. The Lufthansa daughter airline already flies to Varadero in Cuba and Punta Cana in Dominican Republic. Both routes will be flown weekly, Thursdays for Puerto Plata and Mondays for Cancún, and both face no direct competition. The former will be operated by a mixture of equipment, whereas the Mexican service will be flown solely by its A330-200 fleet.
