Among those present in Amsterdam to celebrate the launch of KLM’s service to Fortaleza were: Vice Governor of Ceara State, Maria Izolda Cela de Arruda Coelho; President & CEO of KLM, Pieter Elbers; Brazilian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Regina Cordeiro Dunlop; and Head of Schiphol Airport Group, Dick Benschop, plus flight crew.
- KLM added flights to Fortaleza (FOR) on 3 May, with it becoming the SkyTeam carrier’s third destination in Brazil from Amsterdam (AMS) joining Rio de Janeiro Galeao and Sao Paulo Guarulhos. “Fortaleza is strategically placed as an entry point to Europe and important regions in Brazil. The partnership we have with GOL opens up a new strategic hub, which cements the connection between Amsterdam and Brazil,” commented Pieter Elbers, President & CEO of the airline about the new route. Based on OAG schedules, the route will initially be flown twice-weekly (Thursdays and Saturdays) until 2 July. From this date a third weekly (Mondays) rotation will be added to the schedule. No other carrier presently links Amsterdam with Fortaleza. The 7,435-kilometre route between the European and South American cities will be flown using the airline’s fleet of A330-200s. As a result of adding Fortaleza to its network, KLM will offer up to 17 weekly departures from Amsterdam to Brazil during the peak of S18.
