While the majority of Europe’s airlines and airports were living the highlife in Budapest, and doing some valuable networking as well, a total of 46 new services were being launched around the world. Highlights include SWISS’ return to Singapore with services from Zürich, as well as Air China’s new venture in the opposite direction – from Beijing to Geneva.

Late April’s highlights include Wizz Air’s first service from the EU to Kutaisi in Georgia and two exciting routes from San Francisco – China Eastern Airlines to Shanghai and United Airlines to Paris CDG.
With 22 of the world’s airlines starting 38 routes over the last seven days, Lyon airport has been the main beneficiary, with Transavia.com France further expanding its base with inauguration of three new services. After two extremely busy weeks, this week’s offering of just 58 routes from 21 airlines seems quiet by comparison. Southwest Airlines tops the bill, launching 16 new routes, mainly as a result of routes being switched from its subsidiary AirTran Airways, while fellow LCC Norwegian begins another nine, six coming from Helsinki.
While around 250 routes were launched last week by 45 airlines, Ryanair and Norwegian – the #1 and #2 for most new routes this summer season – accounted for almost a half of this number. Other highlights include SAS launching services to San Francisco, KLM adding Fukuoka as its third Japanese destination, and of course the unbeatable Richard Branson and his Little Red staging a show in Edinburgh.
Summer is here! More than 240 routes were launched by 68 airlines worldwide. Traditionally, Ryanair is still #1 for new routes, but other LCCs have been busy setting up new routes as well, including some great developments in Japan. Turkish Airlines and Etihad increased their transatlantic offering, while Chinese carriers launched almost 40 new routes in the Middle Kingdom.
Summer season is almost here!: Last week brought about a total of 42 new routes launched by 19 airlines worldwide in a prelude to the shift of seasons next week, when over 170 routes are scheduled to commence. While both our weekly prizes involve Italy, other highlights include the great easyJet aircraft cake served in Edinburgh, as well as Air Seychelles’ new service to Hong Kong.
A total of 24 routes were launched by more than a dozen airlines in the course of last week. While the anna.aero-baked cake was the obvious winner of the weekly Cake Prize, equally stunning bakes were prepared in Szczecin and Porto as well.
