The good times are back at Italy’s airports now that Alitalia appears to be more stable and LCCs continue to start new routes. Which airports are faring best (and worst) so far this year and how big will Ryanair’s Bologna be this winter?

Although the last week offered a modest 15 new routes, we have fantastic photo coverage to go with our comprehensive report. Several of the new routes are domestic Chinese services to remote regions, reflecting the Chinese government’s ambition to give these areas a greater share of the country’s economic growth.

In the last week, 35 new routes were launched. Notably, there were no route launches in the Americas, but all other continents are represented with great launch celebrations. Which two airlines launched the same route on the same day? Turkish Airlines, which is rumoured to be merging with Serbia’s Jat Airways, has expanded in the former Yugoslavia, but to which country capital?

39 new routes were launched by 28 airlines in the last week. Although several new routes started in the Middle East, it is notable that none of them were launched by the ‘MEB3’ Gulf carriers. Launching the most new routes are Wizz Air from London Luton, Hamburg International from Cologne/Bonn and flydubai from Dubai. Read all the information and see the celebratory pictures.

This week has seen the launch of over 100 new routes! The single airport to have experienced the most new routes is Keflavik Airport in Iceland, followed by Ireland’s Cork Airport.  The week’s routes are between 60 of the world’s countries, giving our coverage a truly global spread. A bit of a lull before the beginning of May when over 100 new routes will begin. After the ash cloud dispersed from European airspace, launch celebrations were not at the top of the agenda everywhere. However, we still have news and pictures on new routes started during the last week involving airports in France, Germany, India, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Korea, Nepal, Poland, Russia, Spain, the UK and the USA.
