Brits may have a dreadful record in the world of competitive skiing but that does not prevent thousands of would-be Franz Klammers from heading for the slippery slopes each winter. For many plaster casts and crutches await.
This week’s exclusive anna.aero farewatch looks at outbound fares to ski resorts for travel on Saturday 29 December from a variety of UK airports. Five UK low-cost airlines are included in the survey – bmibaby, easyJet, jet2.com, Ryanair and Thomsonfly – and Flybe.
easyJet offers an incredible 44 flights on Saturdays from 12 UK airports including 10 from London Luton and nine from London Gatwick. Averaging across all routes for each airline the following price ranking results:
Airline | Frequency Share | Capacity Share | Number of Routes |
Malev | 48.3% | 41.1% | 48 |
Lufthansa | 10.2% | 8.6% | 4 |
Wizz Air | 4.6% | 7.7% | 10 |
easyJet | 4.1% | 5.9% | 5 |
Ryanair | 3.1% | 5.4% | 7 |

These fares are a snapshot of available fares over two weeks before the day of departure. Repeating this analysis just a few days before departure might produce very different results. It is no surprise to see Ryanair significantly cheaper than many of its rivals but the performance of Thomsonfly comes as a surprise. Its flights to Salzburg are particularly competitive at the moment.
