Routes Europe: Athens takes Routes’ Best Marketing Award; Warsaw wins annie for Best Chocolate

Routes Europe had its biggest turnout this week, illustrating the old maxim that it pays to advertise. And the best marketers were also rewarded for their efforts in other ways. Athens was the winner of the European heat of the Routes Marketing Awards and now goes forward as a finalist at the Routes World Airport Marketing Awards in Beijing in September. Within the European regions Riga took Scandinavia and the Baltic’s, Brussels won the Western Europe category, and Hamburg Airport won the final category of Central and Eastern Europe.

Anna.aero also awarded some more of its “annies” dedicated to airports which took the time and trouble to create memorable stands in the networking village. Warsaw took two of these – for its alarm clock corporate gifts and also in the important stand-alone category of Best Chocolate. Moscow Domodedovo won the annie for best overall booth for its skydiving exhibit.

Best Corporate Gift: Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport’s alarm clocks, beautifully presented here by Karolina Pierścionek, Aeronautical Services Sales Development Analyses Section Manager. (The presence of the clocks in the hand luggage of returning delegates was later to cause initial “alarm” of itself among Prague Airport security staff.)

Best exhibit: Moscow Domodedovo. It probably didn’t cost more than about $500 but Domodedovo’s cut-out skydiver secured a queue of easily-pleased network planners. It’s modelled here by Jiří Žežula, Director Network Development, Czech Airlines. Image: Moscow Domodedovo - Best exhibit
