China Eastern launches two new routes across China

Although China Eastern already serves Xining from Xi’an, the new route from Hefei via Xian was much celebrated in Xining in the region neighbouring Tibet. China Eastern Anhui Province Party Secretary Shi Zuoqi was welcomed to the city with flowers and Khata, the traditional silk scarf.

  • China Eastern launched two new routes on 10 July. From Hefei (HFE) in eastern China, the airline that only last month joined SkyTeam now flies to Xian (XIY) five times weekly with 158-seat A320s, before continuing to Xining, the final leg being a route that China Eastern already serves. Between Hefei and Xian, competition comes from Tianjin Airlines’ 11 and China Southern’s seven flights a week. The same day, China Eastern also launched a route across the country from Kunming (KMG) in southwestern China via Ordos (DSN) in Inner Mongolia to Harbin (HRB) in the northeast of the country. Flights operate daily with 737 aircraft and face no direct competition.
