Spirit Airlines enters the busy route to Portland from Las Vegas

Portland, the largest city in Oregon, had its airport welcome a new airline last week. Spirit now provides competition to Southwest and Alaska Airlines on the airport’s most popular route to Las Vegas.
- Spirit Airlines continued expanding its network to new US west coast destinations from Las Vegas, NV (LAS) when the low-cost carrier launched a new route to Portland, OR (PDX) on 22 September. The airline’s 145-seat A319s are now operated twice-daily on the route, competing with Southwest’s four daily flights and Alaska Airlines’ 25 flights a week. Steve Schreiber, Port of Portland aviation director, commented: “We welcome Spirit Airlines to Portland International Airport. We expect this service to be a big hit as Las Vegas is our most travelled route with some 450,000 passengers travelling each year between PDX and Las Vegas.”
