IndiGo launches international flights from Mumbai

IndiGo’s international expansion out of Mumbai was celebrated with lamplighting…and two cakes – one for Dubai…

…and one for Bangkok. Both were cut by the airline’s CEO Aditya Ghosh.

  • IndiGo, the Indian low-cost carrier, continued to expand internationally after having recently completed its period of five years’ domestic operations. The turn has now come to Mumbai (BOM), from where the airline launched two new routes on 2 October. The airline now flies daily with its 180-seat A320s to both Bangkok (BKK) and Dubai (DXB), two destinations that it recently began serving from Delhi. Although both routes are highly competitive, IndiGo is the only low-cost airline to operate either route. To Bangkok, competition comes from Jet Airways’ 14 and Thai’s 12 flights a week as well as each daily services on Air India, Kingfisher, Bangkok Airways and Cathay Pacific. To Dubai, competition comes from Emirates’ 35 flights a week as well as Jet Airways’ thrice-daily, Air India’s twice-daily and Kingfisher’s daily services. Aditya Ghosh, President IndiGo, said: “We have received great response from our customers on our recently launched international flights and we feel quite encouraged. We hope to receive a similar response for our international flights to and from Mumbai. It is our consistent endeavour to make the journey hassle free for our customers and provide them high quality experience at the best yet affordable prices.”
