Air France launches new route to Cape Town in South Africa
- Air France relaunched services to Cape Town (CPT) in South Africa from Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) on 31 October. The airline now complements its sister airline KLM’s daily operations from Amsterdam by operating three times weekly from Paris with 309-seat 777-200 aircraft during the northern winter season. Pierre Descazeaux, Air France-KLM’s SVP Africa and Middle East, said: “There is a lot of traffic from Europe and France in particular to Cape Town during our winter months. If demand remains high, we will consider keeping the flight for longer periods. This is an initial trial period but forward bookings indicate demand is very high. We’re very happy to be back in Cape Town.” Although this is the first time the two airports are connected with a non-stop service, Air France did operate the route via Johannesburg between 1993 and 1999.
