Velvet Sky launches new routes between Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth
- Velvet Sky, the South African low-cost airline, launched three new domestic routes on 4 November. From its Durban (DUR) base as well as Cape Town (CPT), the airline now flies each four times weekly to Port Elizabeth (PLZ), competing from Durban with South African Airways’ (SAA) 37 weekly flights and a daily service on British Airways (Comair) and from Cape Town with SAA’s 51 weekly flights, BA’s daily service and six flights a week on 1time. The airline also launched a twice-weekly connection between Cape Town (CPT) and Durban (DUR), which faces high-frequency competition from Mango’s 21, BA’s 19, SAA’s 19, 1time’s 18 and Comair’s seven weekly flights.
