SpiceJet adds three new Chennai routes with Q400s

  • SpiceJet has added three destinations from its base at Chennai (MAA) using its new Bombardier Q400 turboprops. Daily flights now operate non-stop to Goa (GOA), Mangalore (IXE) and Tiruchirapilly (TRZ). The Tiruchirapilly route is the most competitive with rival services offered by Air India Express (nine weekly flights), Jet Airways (double daily flights) and Kingfisher (eight flights per week). The Goa route is already served by Air India with four weekly flights, while the Mangalore route is currently not served directly. Chennai is India’s fifth busiest airport for domestic flights, the airport handling 7.8 million domestic passengers in the year to March 2011, up 17% on the previous 12 month period.
