Allegiant launches nine new routes for Thanksgiving

Phoenix Mesa Airport not only celebrated the new service from Las Vegas, but also took the opportunity to announce another new Allegiant route; the service to Oakland is to be launched in January. Celebrating are Mesa Councilwoman Dina Higgins and Mesa Vice Mayor Scott Somers – joined by Las Vegas showgirls – and Allegiant spokeswoman Kristine Shattuck-Cooper; Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, and Phoenix Airport’s Public Information Officer Brian Sexton and Airport Executive Director Lynn Kusy.

Airport Authority Board Chairman David Hillier and his airport staff (dressed as “Tacky Tourists” – the theme of the giveaway promotion) welcomed Allegiant to Asheville in North Carolina. The Perkins family from Waynesville, NC, was the lucky winner of the Pack Your Bags Tacky Tourist promotion.

  • Allegiant Air has taken advantage of the imminent Thanksgiving holiday weekend to launch nine new routes that may appeal to travellers keen to travel to warmer climes such as California, Florida or Nevada. There are five new routes to Florida, of which three are to Orlando Sanford (SFB) and two to Fort Lauderdale (FLL). Las Vegas (LAS) also gets three new connections, while Los Angeles (LAX) also gets a new route. Two new airports welcome Allegiant flights for the first time; Asheville (AVL) in North Carolina and Newport News (PHF) in Virginia both get direct flights to Orlando Sanford. One unusual new route is that between Phoenix-Mesa (AZA) and Las Vegas, as these are both normally ‘destination’ airports for the airline. Speaking back in September when the route was announced, Andrew Levy, Allegiant President, said: “We are excited to offer new service between the Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport and Las Vegas. The Phoenix Mesa community has long been asking for this service and we answered with low fares and great deals on hotels, car rentals and show tickets.” After launching with six weekly flights, frequencies will double to 12 weekly flights from 11 January.
