Cake of the Week:
Thai Airways’ Bangkok to Brussels
WOW! Brussels Airport served a huge 85 x 85cm Thai orchid cake for the new Bangkok service on Thai Airways. The cake was completely finished by the gathered crowd, which included 20 Miss Belgium 2012 candidates on their way to their photo shoots in Thailand. Cutting the ribbon for the new route were Arnaud Feist, CEO Brussels Airport, Thai Airways’ president Piyasvasti Amranand and EVP commercial Pandit Chanapai.
- Thai Airways resumed non-stop flights from Bangkok (BKK) to Brussels (BRU) after a gap of almost 15 years. The airline is now operating three flights per week using 777-200ER aircraft with 30 seats in Royal Silk Class, and a further 262 seats in Economy Class. This makes Brussels Thai Airways’ 72nd destination worldwide. According to the airline, the load factor on the first flight from Brussels to Bangkok was 91% and forward bookings are good, raising hopes for increased frequencies. Guests on the inaugural flight from the Belgian capital included Miss Belgium 2011 and 20 contestants for next year’s Miss Belgium beauty pageant. Brussels Airport, it should be noted, is also the hub of Thai Airways’ Star Alliance partner Brussels Airlines.
