jetBlue launches new routes to US Virgin Islands from Boston and Puerto Rico

jetBlue’s new intra-Caribbean services between Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands were celebrated with island cakes and cupcakes. Passengers were handed goody-bags as the ribbon was cut.

  • jetBlue added the US Virgin Islands to its network in the last week. On 15 December, the airline launched flights to St Thomas (STT) from both Boston (BOS) and San Juan (SJU) in Puerto Rico. Boston flights operate five times weekly with A320s, with the inbound flights stopping in San Juan. The San Juan service is scheduled 14 times weekly with E-190s. The following day, daily flights were also launched from San Juan to St Croix (STX) with E-190s. The airline faces competition from American Airlines’ weekly service from Boston, whereas the competition is considerable on the intra-Caribbean routes. To St Croix, Cape Air operates 56, Seaborne Airlines 25 and American Airlines 19 weekly flights, whereas the San Juan to St Thomas route faces competition from Cape Air’s 63, Seaborne Airlines’ 31, Air Sunshine’s 28 and American Airlines’ 21 flights a week.
