Avianca’s first Cuba-bound passengers from Bogotá were seen off from the Colombian airport. This is Avianca-TACA’s third route to Havana after flights from San Salvador and Lima.
- On 30 March, Colombia’s Avianca commenced twice-weekly services to Havana (HAV) from its base in Bogotá (BOG). The 2,200-kilometre route is served with A319 equipment, offering 120 seats inclusive of 12 in business class. This new Caribbean route reinforces Avianca-TACA’s presence in Havana, as the airline group also offers services from San Salvador and Lima. Avianca’s CEO, Fabio Villegas Ramírez, said that “while considering this route, the airline was looking to consolidate connecting opportunities for Latin America’s Caribbean-bound leisure segment.” The airline faces competition from both Copa and Cubana, which serve the market with one weekly flight each.
