Avianca launches two domestic routes from Cali; adds Cúcuta from Medellín
- On 4 June, Colombia’s largest carrier Avianca launched three domestic routes, two of which involve the country’s second-largest city, Cali (CLO). Barranquilla (BRQ) and Cartagena (CTG), both important Colombian sea ports, are now offered from Cali with five weekly frequencies each. Additionally, Avianca added services from Colombia’s second-largest city, Medellín (MDE), to Cúcuta (CUC) in the northeast of the country. Services from the Antioquian city will depart with also five-weekly frequencies. Flights on all routes will be operated with the airline’s fleet of 100-seat A318s. Competition on the route to Cartagena comes from Colombia’s latest airline arrival, VivaColombia, which launched operations as recently as 25 May with two routes from Medellín. The new airline entered the market from Cali to Cartagena on 1 June.
