Etihad now serves Lagos in Nigeria from its Abu Dhabi hub

Etihad arrived to a fire-truck salute in an already rainy Lagos. The Gulf carrier now serves Nigeria’s largest city six times weekly from its Abu Dhabi hub.

  • Etihad expanded its African network on 1 July when the Gulf carrier began serving Lagos (LOS), Nigeria’s largest city, from its Abu Dhabi (AUH) hub. This is the airline’s first route to West Africa. Flights will operate six times weekly with the airline’s 264-seat A330-200s. Commenting the addition of Nigeria to the airline’s network, Etihad’s CEO James Hogan said: “The country is rich in natural resources, such as oil and natural gas. Our new point-to-point services will strengthen the oil and gas links between the UAE and Nigeria and facilitate further growth in these industries.” Notably, Arik Air was last year planning to operate the route, but abandoned its plans prior to the launch.
