Qatar Airways launches thrice-weekly flights to Maputo in Mozambique

Celebrating the arrival of Qatar Airways in Maputo were Cristiano dos Santos, Consul General of the Republic of Mozambique to UAE responsible for Qatar; Manuela Goldman, Qatar Airways’ Commercial Manager Mozambique; Salem Abdullah Sultan Al-Jaber, Qatari Ambassador to South Africa with responsibility for Mozambique; Rashid Mordiffi, Qatar Airways’ Senior Manager Africa; Paulo Zucula, Mozambique’s Minister of Transportation and Communication; Afonso Sande Cuinhane, Mozambique CAA’s CEO; and Manuel Veterano, Mozambique Airports Authority’s CEO.

  • Qatar Airways launched thrice-weekly flights to Maputo (MPM) in Mozambique as an extension to its service from Doha (DOH) to Johannesburg (JNB). Flights on the 6,600-kilometre route will be operated with 777-300ERs. Qatar Airways’ CEO Akbar Al Baker pointed out: “With the discovery of large reserves of natural gas, Mozambique is today emerging to be one of the fastest growing economies in the region.” Qatar Airways’ Senior Manager Africa, Rashid Mordiffi, who led the delegation on the inaugural flight, added: “Launching these new flights to Maputo shows our confidence and commitment to this vibrant economy. Being an important port in Mozambique, Maputo is a vital economic supply corridor to neighbouring landlocked countries in Southern Africa and strategically well positioned.”
