Spring Airlines expands at Hangzhou and Shijiazhuang

  • Spring Airlines, China’s self-professed first and only true LCC, is using the start of the summer season in 2013 to add weight to two existing airports – namely Hangzhou (HGH) and its focus city of Shijiazhuang (SJW). Overnight the carrier has grown its presence by 150% at Hangzhou, with its additional 21 weekly rotations adding to the 14 Spring Airlines already flies to its only destination of Shenyang. Three of the four routes will face competition of up to 45 weekly rotations from six airlines, while its twice-weekly flights to Dayong (DYG), will start unchallenged. Meanwhile in Shijiazhuang, the incremental nine weekly services to three destinations add to the 77 weekly flights and 10 network points that the LCC already boasts from what is being promoted by Spring Airlines at least, as ‘Beijing’s new gateway airport’. All 25 new weekly sorties are flown by the carrier’s 174-seat A320 aircraft.
