Before the passengers could experience the unique midnight sun experience as a result of the flight's routing, Birkir Holm Icelandair's CEO; Luis Arrega, US Ambassador to Iceland; Alaska Commissioner, Susan Bell; and Bjorn Oli Hauksson CEO of Isavia, cut the celebratory ribbon.
Velkomin um bord, Icelandair! The arrival of the Icelandic carrier in Anchorage was greeted with the traditional watercannon salute.
- Icelandair commenced seasonal flights on the 5,400-kilometre route from its Reykjavik Keflavík (KEF) base to Anchorage, AK (ANC) on 15 May. The service is offered with twice-weekly frequencies and operated until mid-September using winglet-equipped 757-200s. Birkir Holm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair, commented: “In addition to opening up a new market for Icelandic tourism, travellers will now have a refreshing new option when flying from Alaska to Europe.”
