During the launch celebrations in Kelowna, Air North’s CEO, Joseph Sparling, received a commemorative gift from members of the Westbank First Nation. Kelowna Airport’s Director, Sam Samaddar, commented: “A direct flight makes it so much easier for commerce, tourism, and everything, to take place and it will benefit the entire region. It’s a perfect connection.”

  • Air North, the Canadian carrier originating in the country’s north-western territory  of Yukon, commenced operations on the route from Whitehorse (YXY) to Kelowna (YLW) on 6 June. Weekly services are operated via Vancouver (YVR), while a second weekly frequency operates to Vancouver via Whitehorse. 737 narrowbodies are deployed to operate the service. Debra Ryan, Manager of Strategic Planning and Alliances for Air North, commented: “It’s been twelve years since we’ve added a new route. We did a big customer survey and they told us that of the top destinations that they wanted Air North to look at, Kelowna was consistently in the top four.”
