WestJet Encore launches from Calgary with two Q400s
WestJet Encore is the name of the new regional subsidiary of Canadian LCC WestJet, which we have analysed in more detail this week. On Monday the airline launched its first flights from Calgary (YYC) to Fort St. John (YXJ) and Nanaimo (YCD), as well as from Vancouver (YVR) to Fort St. John (YXJ) and Victoria (YYJ). Competition is provided by Air Canada on both Vancouver routes, while Pacific Coastal Airlines also operates on the Victoria route. Despite being just 63 kilometres apart, the Vancouver – Victoria route does not even feature in the top 100 of shortest commercial air routes in North America. All of the new routes will be served daily using the carrier’s new Q400s.
