Japan Airlines chooses Helsinki as its fifth European route

With a few months’ worth of delay, Japan Airlines commenced the long-awaited 787 service from Tokyo Narita to Helsinki.

  • Japan Airlines commenced services on the 7,800-kilometre route from its Tokyo Narita (NRT) hub to Helsinki (HEL) on 1 July. Daily flights are offered on the newly launched route and operated using 787s. Finnair, a fellow member of the oneworld alliance, provides direct competition in the market with its also daily service. Japan Airlines initially planned to launch flights on the route from Tokyo to Helsinki on 25 February, but then had to postpone the launch due to the grounding of all 787s.
