Air Mauritius commenced operations on the 9,100-kilometre route connecting its base in Mauritius (MRU) and Beijing (PEK) on 6 July. Weekly flights are operated on the route using A340-300s. Andre Viljoen, CEO of Air Mauritius, said: “The non-stop service opens a new channel for promoting bilateral ties and helps Mauritius better share in the economic opportunities provided by China’s rapid development.” Air Mauritius already serves China via Shanghai and Hong Kong, benefiting from estimated traffic of 20,000 travellers between the two countries in 2012.
