Iberia launches third route to Canary Islands from Asturias

Carlos González, Asturias’ Transport Consortium Director; Carlos San Martín, Asturias Airport’s Director; and Juan Corral, Air Nostrum’s Commercial Director, welcomed passengers arriving on Iberia’s inaugural service from Gran Canaria with goodie bags, while the airport’s fire brigade was at hand with the traditional water arch.

  • Iberia increased its offering to the Canary Islands from mainland Spain last week, as it launched operations on the 1,900-kilometre route from Asturias (OVD) in northern Spain to Gran Canaria (LPA). Beginning on 19 July, the airline offers four weekly frequencies, which will be reduced to weekly from 1 September. CRJ900s are deployed to operate the service, which competes with AirEuropa’s weekly schedule. Iberia’s new route is operated by Air Nostrum, which also flies for the airline on routes to Lanzarote and Tenerife Norte from Asturias.
