SpiceJet connects Pune with Sharjah

SpiceJet now connects Pune with Sharjah
  • SpiceJet has launched its third route to Sharjah (SHJ) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Four times weekly flights from Pune (PNQ), operated by 737-800s, will complement the airline’s existing services from Lucknow and Varanasi. Flights arrive into and depart from Sharjah in the middle of the night. This is only Pune Airport’s second international service, following in the footsteps of Air India Express’ thrice-weekly flights to Dubai. In 2012, Sharjah International Airport handled just over 7.5 million passengers, making it the third busiest airport in the UAE after Dubai (57.7 million) and Abu Dhabi (14.7 million).

A slight mistake. This is Pune’s third international service after Air India Express (Dubai) and Lufthansa (Frankfurt).

    • Well spotted. Lufthansa’s Pune-Frankfurt service does not appear in our schedule data. The flights are operated by Privatair (LH768/LH769) on behalf of Lufthansa using a 737-800/BBJ. On the return journey the aircraft makes a 30-minute technical stop in Bucharest. I gather the route is basically a pure business route as Pune is home to several major companies such as Mercedes-Benz and VW.
