British Airways’ inaugural from London Heathrow arrived at Gran Canaria Airport where it was received by a traditional fire truck water arch.
- British Airways introduced direct weekly flights from London Heathrow (LHR) to Gran Canaria (LPA), utilising its 162-seat A320s. The new winter sun route will be served weekly (Saturdays) on the 2,898-kilometre sector until 29 March 2014. While there is no direct competition linking Heathrow to the third-largest of the Canary Islands, easyJet flies five times weekly, as well as Norwegian also offering a four times weekly service, both from London Gatwick; Ryanair operates flights to Gran Canaria from London Luton (twice-weekly) and London Stansted (six); Thomas Cook flies from London Stansted (one) and London Gatwick (two); while Thomson Airways operates from the same London airports with weekly and four times weekly services respectively.
