19,822 vote in Cake of the Week as anna.aero readership surges past monthly 90,000; Southwest Airlines Tampa to Memphis wins!!!
Almost 20,000 visited anna.aero in the last week to vote for Cake of the Week. That’s 20,000 people visiting the site, looking and learning about the hundreds of new routes we have reported for the start of the 2013/14 winter season. Southwest Airlines mobilised 1.5 million Twitter followers, 4 million likes on Facebook, and 46,000 employees to gather a massive 7,708 votes – 38.9% of total – to win with its Tampa to Memphis Elvis cake. Southwest also came second (Pensacola to Houston Hobby) and fourth (Richmond to Orlando) taking its share of the vote to 83.8% of the total, a result only bettered by Saddam Hussein’s 100% win in the disputed 2002 elections.
“We’re so honoured to have received so many votes for our new service cakes featured on anna.aero,” said Southwest Airlines Spokesperson Michelle Agnew. “Our gratitude goes out to the hard working employees and airport partners who made our inaugural events in Memphis, Richmond, and Pensacola a true success. Further honourable mention goes to Norwegian’s Fuerteventura to London Gatwick cake, with 2,092 votes (10.6%) – a result which would have won last week’s vote – again the Norwegians called on 14,013 Twitter followers, 8,715 Facebook likes and 2,500 employees.
