The crew of the inaugural Thai AirAsia flight from Bangkok Don Mueang Airport to Kunming Airport received flowers on their arrival at the Chinese airport on 15 November. Flights operate daily and face indirect competition from China Eastern Airlines and Thai Airways who both operate daily flights between Kunming and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport.
- Thai AirAsia has added another destination to its growing base at Bangkok Don Mueang (DMK) with the addition of daily A320 flights to Kunming (KMG) in China from 15 November. No other airline operates this 1,260-kilometre airport-pair, but China Eastern Airlines (twice-daily) and Thai Airways (daily) provide indirect competition by operating between Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and Kunming. Kunming becomes the seventh destination in mainland China to be served by Thai AirAsia from Bangkok, and it also serves Hong Kong. Among the AirAsia family of airlines only AirAsia itself also serves Kunming, from Kuala Lumpur.
