Transaero Airlines’ Moscow Domodedovo to Murmansk

Despite it being a chilly 0 degrees in Murmansk (see cake for weather forecast), a warm welcome was waiting for the arriving passengers on Transaero Airlines’ first service from Moscow Domodedovo on 10 October. The inaugural flight had to be operated by a larger than originally scheduled 737-400 due to loads on both sectors in excess of 130 passengers.

  • Transaero Airlines has begun serving its 28th domestic destination from its Moscow Domodedovo (DME) hub, launching thrice-weekly services to Murmansk (MMK). The port city which sits inside the Arctic Circle, will be served by the airline’s 122-seat 737-500s, with flights beginning on 10 October. Competition on the 1,514-kilometre airport pair will come from RusLine, which plans to begin its own operations on 13 October between the two cities, utilising its 50-seat CRJ 200s. In addition, Nordavia flies from Murmansk thrice-daily to Moscow Sheremetyevo, with UTair offering daily services to Moscow Vnukovo. According to a local news agency, the inaugural service was carried out on the larger, 140-seat 737-400 as the flight was loaded from Moscow with 135 passengers and departed from Murmansk to the capital with 133 on-board.
