- airBaltic expanded its winter seasonal offering with a new service from its Riga (RIX) base to Tatry (TAT) in Slovakia on 13 December. The 921-kilometre sector to the famous ski resort in the highest mountain range of the Carpathian Mountains will be served weekly (Saturdays) until 7 March, using the airline’s 142-seat 737-300s. No other operator servers this airport pair. Commenting on the route launch, Martin Sedlacky, Board Member of airBaltic, said: “As a Slovak national myself working for the Latvian airline, I am very thrilled to see the two airports connected. Poprad in the High Tatras is an excellent and affordable skiing destination, which will benefit from tourism opportunities created by the new airBaltic route.”
