Delta Air Lines debuts 15 new routes

Cookies, balloons and at-gate speeches were in evidence in Arizona for the start of the Seattle-Tacoma to Tucson service. The weekly service was one of eight weekly services all launched on 20 December from a total of 15 new routes started by Delta Air Lines.

  • Delta Air Lines was by far the busiest carrier over the festive season, launching seven domestic and eight international routes. Somewhat uniquely, all 15 of the routes were launched on the same day – 20 December (a Saturday). Most of the new services were seasonal, low frequency operations, with over half (eight) being flown on a weekly basis only. The airline will face competition on 80% of the routes, with the most densely served route being the Seattle-Tacoma (SEA) to Phoenix (PHX) city pair, offering 85 competing weekly frequencies from the three incumbents – Alaska Airlines (35), US Airways (30) and Southwest Airlines (20). See how Tucson Airport’s FTWA compares to others from around the world.
